2021 Lexus LC 500

The 2021 Lexus LC 500 is a master class in creating a brilliant grand tourer (GT). It starts with a sonorous 5.0 liter V8 and refined high-tech chassis. Then it adds a gloriously luxurious interior. Finally, it wraps this in sculptured aluminum that will draw envious glances. The whole package is seductive to the point you’d be forgiven for overlooking the fact that it comes with Lexus’s legendary reliability.

Basics About the 2021 Lexus LC 500

The LC 500 is a four-seat grand touring car driven by a buttery-smooth V8 engine. We say four seats, but the rear seats are small (think small children and puppies). The engine produces 471 horsepower and delivers this to the rear wheels via a 10-speed automatic transmission with shifts so subtle you hardly notice. The car’s interior and its whole demeanor lean toward luxurious motoring rather than zero-to-60 sprints. Yet it’ll leap off the line if you punch it.

Inside is All Luxury

The LC 500 interior is a study in leather and craftsman quality metal and wood trim. The seats are among the most comfortable Lexus has ever produced. Not too soft, not too hard, and seemingly with infinite adjustments to get them just the way you like. In addition to heated and ventilated cushioning, there is a neck vent that blows a light stream of conditioned air on your neck. This interior is delightfully soundproofed in both the coupe and the cabriolet.

New/Unique Features

For 2021, Lexus added a convertible to the LC 500 lineup. The power-retractable soft top retains the lines of the coupe version and looks equally as good up or down. They also added Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features on the LC 500’s infotainment system. This is good news for those who would rather use their smartphones directly from the large dash touchscreen. They also smoothed out the suspension and added Active Cornering Assist as a feature.

Safety Features Standard

Along with a reputation for exceptionally reliable luxury vehicles, Lexus is known for its standout safety features. The LC 500 is no exception. The relatively small cabin features eight airbags to protect passengers from impact. Additionally, the vehicle comes with an impressive collection of driver-assist technology designed to prevent collisions before they happen. This includes lane-keeping and departure warnings, front collision warning/automatic braking (which recognizes bicyclists and pedestrians), and adaptive cruise control.

Pricing

There are three versions of LC 500s to choose from.  The base LC 500 coupe is MSRP $97,075. The hybrid LC 500h is $98,635. The LC 500 Convertible is MSRP $102,125. Fully optioning the convertible it would come to around $112,000.  Since the LC 500 leans more toward luxury touring than all-out performance, it exists in a market where comparable luxury marque vehicles (especially convertibles) are significantly pricier. In short, the LC 500 is a relative bargain.

It is difficult to go wrong when you combine true luxury and a smooth/powerful V8. But the incredible craftsmanship and striking sheet metal push the LC 500 over the top.
