Sitting along the banks of the Christina River, the city of Wilmington, DE, is the largest urban area in the state. Surrounded by lakes, rivers, state parks, and sprawling nature reserves, this city is not far from idyllic spots that offer some of the best views in the region. If you are looking for new destinations to explore in your shiny 2022 Lexus UX, these are three nearby spots you should check out.

1. Red Bank Battlefield Park

Located a little under 30 miles northeast of the Wilmington city center, Red Bank Battlefield Park is an important historical site and outdoor recreational area that spans about 45 acres and offers excellent views of the downtown Philadelphia skyline. Added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972, this place was the location of the Battle of Red Bank in 1777 and still features some of the original cannons and trenches used at the time.

Besides the historical significance of the area, Red Bank Battlefield Park is an excellent destination to relax and spend some time in nature. Open year-round between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, this park features a series of trails and beautiful picnic areas along the banks of the Delaware River. Getting here from downtown Wilmington takes about half an hour by car along routes I-95 and I-295.

2. Fox Point State Park

Spanning an area of a little over 100 acres along the banks of the Delaware River, Fox Point State Park is another scenic destination that welcomes thousands of visitors every year. This beautiful nature reserve opened its doors to the public in 1995 and has since become a well-known spot for picnicking, birding, and wildlife watching. Located about three and a half miles northeast of downtown Wilmington, this place can be reached in just 10 minutes by car.

Once you make your way to Fox Point State Park, make sure to check out the designated viewpoints along the northern and southern tips of this nature reserve. The north part offers fantastic views of the Philadelphia skyline, while the south one lets you see the Delaware Memorial Bridge that connects Delaware with New Jersey since the early 1950s.

3. Fort DuPont State Park

Established on the site of an old military base from the Civil War, Fort DuPont State Park is another well-known weekend destination among Wilmington locals looking for a place to take a break from the urban routine. Established in 1992 and covering an area of about 320 acres, this nature reserve offers great views of Pea Patch Island and the Delaware River.
